Prior to becoming Managing Director and Partner at HighTower, Mr. McGuirk founded Martin Thomas Wealth Management to deliver unbiased and independent advice while building client loyalty through trust, integrity, and unsurpassed service. Previously, he was also Vice President in wealth management at Smith Barney. There he was named “One of America’s Top Planners” by the Consumers’ Research Council. He was a member of the team profiled in The Winner’s Circle V: Wealth Management Insights from America’s Best Financial Advisory Teams.

Mr. McGuirk started his career at Sanford C. Bernstein Investment Research and Management. He is a Chartered Financial Consultant and a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ (CFP®). He has been quoted in multiple financial sources including Dow Jones, Financial Advisor Magazine, RIABiz, and InvestmentNews. Mr. McGuirk graduated from the University of California, Berkeley, in 1994. On a personal note, Mr. McGuirk is a six-time National Champion and two-time Olympian, having represented Ireland in the 400 meter hurdles at the 1996 Atlanta and 2000 Sydney Olympic Games. 

Mr. McGuirk has his Series 6, 7, 31, 63, and 65 licenses.

Mr. De Nevi brings over 12 years of wealth management experience to HighTower. Prior to joining the firm, he was the Director of Research and Portfolio Management at Martin Thomas Wealth Management. He also served as a Financial Advisor in the Private Client Group at Merrill Lynch. While at Merrill Lynch, Mr. De Nevi became a Certified Financial Manager and went on to obtain his Certified Retirement Planning Counselor (CRPC®) designation in 2006. He received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration, with a focus on Finance and a minor in Economics from California State University, Hayward. He currently advises business students at U.C. Berkeley’s career events. Mr. De Nevi was born in San Francisco and currently resides on the Peninsula. He is an avid sports fan and enjoys biking on the weekends.
