Special Situations

Did you know?

Tax deferred accounts such as retirement, life, and annuity accounts pass directly to beneficiaries without passing through probate and take priority over anything provided for in your wills or trusts. As highlighted in RDM’s 2018 “Your Financial Checklist” remember to review all primary and contingent beneficiary designations on these accounts that are in your name to ensure they are up to date and align with your estate plan and your wishes. In fact, reviewing beneficiary designations should be part of your annual financial planning maintenance and whenever you have a life event such as marriage, divorce, death of a spouse or other family member, or have recently inherited any of these accounts. Make necessary updates as soon as possible.
